A Laplacian Pyramid based Image Fusion Technique

Abstract


An image fusion technique using discrete Cosine transform (DCT) based on Laplacian pyramid is presented and studied. Through some testing and experiments it is found that the fused output image with higher level of pyramid gives better resolution quality and also quality in terms of human visibility. As we specify to get a greater number of pyramid level data, the execution increases accordingly because it is proportional to the number of pyramid levels. This method or technique can be used to fuse images in departments like medical science, crime and military organizations to get a clear result in the form of an image which has comparatively more useful information compared to the input images. MATLAB code has been provided for quick implementation and validation of the proposed algorithm.
