Influence of Tool Pin Profile and Rotation Speed on Properties of Friction Stir Welded Aa5083-H111 Aluminium Alloy

Abstract


In this study, concentration is rewarded to study the effect of tool pin profile and tool rotation speed on properties of Friction stir welded aluminium alloy. Aluminium alloy (AA5083-H111) plates of thickness 6 mm were butt welded on single side by friction stir welding process under diverse rotational speeds (viz. 600, 800 and 1000 rpm) and various tool pin profiles (viz. tapered unthreaded, tapered threaded and triflute). Results shows that triflute tool with maximum rotation speed of 1000 rpm among the three used, yields maximum tensile strength and tapered unthreaded and threaded pin profile found to be the most favourable tool at lower speed (i.e 600 rpm).
