Design Analysis of an Automatic Rain Sensing Protection Cover
Abstract
During the rainy seasons, cultivated crops often become affected by heavy rain fall. Based on common knowledge, agricultural practice is important in every country, but during heavy rain falls, farmers are often faced with a lot of challenge as a result of the destruction of cultivated crops. Hence, this study will help to shield the crops from damage caused by heavy rains and retain rainwater for many other purposes. The retained water can be used to feed animals, wash, etc., and can also be adopted to irrigate the field when the need arises. In this design, an automatic roof is introduced that operates to receive signals from rain and soil moisture sensors and covers the entire field to protect it from rain. Whenever there is rainfall, the rain sensor becomes activated and the water level in the soil is sensed by the soil moisture sensor. Whenever there is rainfall, the rain sensor is turned on and when the water level in the soil is beyond the normal level then soil moisture sensor is turned on. If the both sensors are turned on, then this information is sent to the controller. The system has a motor speed (driven) of 120rpm, motor speed (driving) of 120rpm, motor pulley length of 0.03m, driven pulley length of 0.3m, reduction ratio of 10:1, power of 0.25hp (0.183kw), torque of 1.48Nm(0.15kgm), pulley diameter of 3inches (0.0762m), drum diameter of 6iches (0.1524m) and sheet mass of 35kg. The controller indicates the DC motor to run which opens the roof automatically to close the field with a protection cover.
