Solar Powered Smart Irrigation System Using Rainwater Harvesting

Abdesh Pal, Kumar Adarsh, Anureet Shekhon, Sheetal Nagar

Abstract

Solar energy has rapidly become an alternative means of electricity source. Fossil fuels are depleting, thus the need for alternative energy sources is a necessity. In this energy crisis economically, solar power can be the alternate for all our important needs. A smart solar-powered irrigation system is the solution to the Indian farmers. This system comprises sun based controlled water pump along with an automatic water stream control using a moisture sensor with a solar directing system. The design of the prototype is carried out with a programmed microcontroller that performs the function of controlling the system by enabling communication between the sensors and motor drivers depending on the movement of the sun. It leads to a decreased use of the grid power thereby conserving loss of water which leads to its conservation.
