Study of Zener Diode and its Application

Akash Kumar

Abstract

Zener diodes are a type of semiconductor device that exhibits unique characteristics when operated in reverse-biased mode. This abstract aims to provide an overview of the key characteristics and properties of zener diodes. Zener diodes are specifically designed to exploit the phenomenon of zener breakdown, which occurs when a high electric field is applied across a p-n junction. The key characteristic of Zener diodes is their ability to maintain a nearly constant voltage across their terminals, called the zener voltage (Vz), even when the current through the diode varies significantly. This property makes zener diodes extremely useful in voltage regulation and protection applications.
