Loss Allocation in Radial Distribution Systems

B. Neelakanteshwar Rao, V. Ramesh Babu, K. Veeresham

Abstract

In the structured electricity distribution networks, meaningful loss allocation methods are required so that losses can be allocated without any bias to consumers connected to the distribution system. Allocating losses to the consumers is a challenging task. The main objective is to allocate losses to the consumers only based on their consumption. The problem arises as losses occur in transmission of power in radial distribution systems. These losses should be accounted and addressed. These losses occur because of presence of resistance in the branches carrying current. Since cost of generation should be compensated, we have to allocate losses to consumers in Radial distribution system such that there is no-bias. The loss allocation scheme recovers the total amount of losses and it is economically efficient.
