Abstract

Low vision, visual impairment, and blindness are broad terms encompassing a range of conditions influencing an individual's capability to see and function in daily life. Low vision denotes those whose vision cannot be corrected by glasses in full manner, contact lenses, refractive surgery, or other surgery. Visual impairment denotes those whose reduced visual function intervenes with the capability of one to perform their activities of daily living. Most forms of vision impairment are preventable or treatable, regardless of the cause. An increasing number of blind cases are added to the worldwide burden of blindness as people age, which raises the demand for eye healthcare services. Age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, cataracts, glaucoma, and uncorrected refractive errors are the main causes of blindness in the world. The many aspects of blindness, low vision, and visual impairment are covered in this exercise, with a focus on the causes of these conditions, legal interpretations, and the role that the interprofessional healthcare team plays in managing these patients.
