Ethical and Social Implications of Generative AI

Shafna K.J., Shelna Shaju, Smruthi K J, Manesh D

Abstract

Generative AI is reshaping content creation but raises ethical and legal concerns. This paper examines three key challenges: bias in AI models, ethical risks of deepfakes, and intellectual property disputes. AI-generated images from platforms like Midjourney and DALL·E 2 often reflect biases based on gender and race, stemming from training data and algorithm design. Addressing these issues requires diverse datasets, bias assessments, and greater transparency. Deepfake technology contributes to misinformation, privacy breaches, and political manipulation, highlighting the need for stronger regulations, detection systems, and authentication measures. Additionally, AI challenges existing copyright laws, creating uncertainty around authorship and ownership. Updating legal frameworks, clarifying attribution, and establishing balanced regulations can help navigate these complexities. This paper emphasizes the importance of ethical AI development through collaboration between policymakers, researchers, and industry leaders to promote fairness and accountability.
