Review on Analysis of Braced frames Subjected to Seismic Excitation

Sofiya Tajriyan, A. P. Wadekar

Abstract

The purpose of analysis of various structural frame system in buildings is taken into account such that during rare Earthquake motion which occurs occasionally the buildings should not suffer any destruction and should not fail nor harm human habitants during severe seismic Excitation which occurs rarely during service life of buildings. And retrofitting can also be done of various structures. Among the seismic retrofitting techniques available, steel channel sections can be considered as one of the most efficient solution for achieving good results in Reinforced concrete structures. This paper studies the earthquake excitations of Reinforced concrete structures Constructed with various types of steel channels, X-bracing systems, ZX bracing systems, inverted V bracing, and Zipper bracing systems. Equivalent static Analysis is carried out to calculate the capacity of ground plus ten story structure with various steel channels consisting of different dimensions for the bracings. It is understood that use of steel channels as a bracing system improves the overall strength of the structure in terms of load transfer, deformation and ductility as compared to the structure without bracing, and X bracing system and Zipper bracing systems gives good quality of results based on the type and dimension of the cross section.
