Abstract

The construction industry is always seeking innovations to build structures having durability and less impact on nature. Self-Compacting Concrete (SCC) is a well-known product of the era which doesn’t need any vibrational compaction and can penetrate and fill the narrowest regions around reinforcement. Self- Healing Concrete is another product which have in-built healing ability upon the formation of the crack. This project is about the inclusion of selfhealing properties into SCC using self-healing compounds. The mix design procedures carried out for SCC using Nan-Su method. The fresh concrete properties of the resulting mix isanalyzed using Slump flow and V- funnel test. Cubes are casted for finding out the 7-day and 28-day Compressive strength. Beams and cylinders are casted for finding the Flexural and Split tensile strength respectively. The two Self-healing compounds experimented in this project are Sodium Silicate and Bacillus subtilis bacteria along with Calcium Lactate which are added to the SCC mix in varying proportions. The healing ability is analyzed by inducing cracks in cube specimens and allowing the crack to heal which is detected using Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV) tester. The variation in flow property, filling ability, Compressive strength, Flexural strength, Split tensile strength, healing ability etc. of SCC when SelfHealing compounds are added are also analyzed. Comparative studies done in this project indicate that the inclusion is feasible. Result analysis helped to find the better healing material and its appropriate dosage.
