WORKABILITY AND STRENGTH PROPERTIES OF GREEN CONCRETE PREPARED FROM REPLACEMENT OF FINE AGGREGATE BY RECYCLED PET POWDER AND WASTE TYRE CRUMB POWDER

Justin Thomas, S Abhinav

Abstract

Concrete plays a major role in the construction industry. Green concrete is a type of concrete which resembles the conventional concrete but the production and usage of it causes least harm of the environment. This project work aims at creating such an eco-friendly concrete that serves the dual purpose of providing increased structural strength to the buildings as well as utilizing waste products that are otherwise harmful to the environment. Discarded waste tyres and plastic items forms the major portion of solid waste and this are usually disposed of into landfills causing serious environmental problems. The project tries to use such materials in making of concrete. The waste materials that are incorporated into concrete as part of this project are: Waste tyre crumb powder and recycled PET powder. These are to be provided as a partial replacement for fine aggregate and suitable tests are to be done in the resultant product to assess the properties of it. Tests like workability tests and Compressive strength tests, are carried out on test specimens with different percentages of Waste tyre crumb powder and recycled PET powder and the results will be compared with that of ordinary concrete samples.
