Review of Studies on the Use of Coal Bottom Ash in Concrete: Properties, Workability, Setting Time, and Plastic Shrinkage
Abstract
This comprehensive review explores the utilization of coal bottom ash in concrete, focusing on its impact on properties, workability, setting time, and plastic shrinkage. Coal bottom ash has emerged as a potential substitute for natural sand, especially in regions facing sand scarcity. Several studies have examined its influence on fresh concrete properties, with a particular emphasis on workability, bleeding, and setting times. Notably, the inclusion of coal bottom ash enhances the dimensional stability of concrete, reducing plastic shrinkage. Moreover, research suggests that coal bottom ash exhibits pozzolanic activity, rendering it a suitable material for concrete production. The findings summarized in this review indicate that the effective utilization of coal bottom ash in concrete offers a sustainable solution, addressing both resource depletion and improved concrete properties.
