A Critical Appraisal of the Use of Polypropylene Fibre in Concrete

Sakshi Gupta

Abstract

Cement is the main ingredient used in concrete for various construction works. The manufacturing of cement causes releases of large amount of carbon dioxide which may badly affect the environment. So the practice is to replace the cement with another additive material. Nowadays, cement concrete is replaced by some extra ingredients such as natural and synthetic fibres. The Polypropylene fibre based concrete is an emergent construction ingredient which may have property of high mechanical strength, high performance behaviour and durability. This paper deals with a comprehensive review on various mechanical properties of concrete such as compressive strength, split tensile strength, shrinkage and flexural strength. This paper deals with the usage of polypropylene fibre in concrete with their advantages and various applications.
