Abstract

The simplest way of getting aggregate is from naturally available sources. Excavation of rocks from valley which is generally produces worst environmental impacts and natural sand is extract from the river bed, Cutting and screening out of coarse aggregate makes the conventional concrete more costly. Scarcity will occur due to these continuous of natural materials. Cast iron slag and Cupola slag can be used in the construction industry as replacement of fine aggregate and coarse aggregate. After the moulding of cast iron, the dust surrounding the cast iron specimens are collected which are named as cast iron slag. Cupola slag is by product of cast iron manufacturing unit. Cast iron slag is substitute with fine aggregate and cupola slag is substitute with coarse aggregate with optimum percentage of replacement to check the appropriateness of concrete strength, durability, workability and ecological achievability. In this study, the past work and experimental work done by different individuals as indicated by their perspectives is examined. To conclude in the study, from physical properties of cast iron slag that there are similitude between cast iron slag and fine aggregate and physical properties of cupola slag that there are similitude between cupola slag and coarse aggregate. Both materials are eco-friendly building material. The problem of the disposal and maintenance problem of land filling is reduced.
