Abstract

Combining mineral fillers in asphalt mixtures can produce synergistic effects that enhance both mechanical strength and moisture resistance. This study investigates the combined effect of ceramic dust and lime on hot mix asphalt (HMA) performance. Marshall mix design and moisture conditioning tests were conducted to evaluate stability, swelling, and indirect tensile strength (ITS). The modified mixture with 6% ceramic dust and 4% lime showed the highest mechanical performance and retained superior moisture resistance compared with unmodified asphalt. Lime acts as an anti-stripping agent improving binder–aggregate adhesion, while ceramic dust reduces void spaces and enhances mixture cohesion. The findings demonstrate that filler synergy can significantly improve HMA durability.
