Scenario of Traffic Volume of a Major Collector Road

Ayesha Binta Ali

Abstract

One of the fundamental measures of traffic on a road system is the traffic volume study of a road in a given interval of time. This is also called the flow and is expressed in vehicles per hour or vehicles per day. When the traffic is composed of a number of types of vehicles, it is a common practice to convert the flow into equivalent passenger car unit (PCUs), by certain factors which are then expressed as PCUs per hour or PCU’s per day. The vehicle count needs to be called by considering their class & type. For achieving the goals, a traffic volume survey had been conducted on a collector road between Panthapath-Green Road intersection and Panthapath-Mirpur Road intersection. Then vehicle composition, service flow rate, directional distribution, flow fluctuation etc. were determined from the collected data to recommend some measures to promote the level of service of that collector road.
