Scenario of Roadway Condition of a Major Collector Road

Ayesha Binta Ali

Abstract

Roadway condition surveys are integral components of comprehensive traffic and transportation study. Appreciation of existing traffic and travel characteristics are very important for developing traffic and transportation plan. A roadway condition survey had been conducted on the collector road in Panthapath between Panthapath-Green road intersection and Panthapath-Mirpur Road intersection. Data collected from the survey had been analyzed to get required information regarding the geometric and operating condition of roadway. Geometric condition includes road length and width, no. of lane, median height and width, shoulder height and width, geometric measurement and position of island etc. Operating condition includes location and width of side road, roadside land use pattern, location of bottlenecks, road marking, sign, signal, street light, density of obstruction (manholes, speed breakers, pothole) etc. This data helps to make some educated guess on characteristics of the condition of the road and to recommend some measures to provide better facility to the road.
