Abstract

Traffic congestion poses significant socio-economic and environmental challenges in urban centers worldwide, including Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. This study evaluates traffic congestion and its mitigation strategies along selected routes in Ibadan. Using structured questionnaires administered to 320 respondents, it identifies key factors causing congestion, analyzes its impacts, and evaluates the effectiveness of existing mitigation strategies. The findings reveal that high vehicular volumes, poorly maintained roads, and inadequate traffic management are major contributors. To mitigate these challenges, the study recommends improved road maintenance, traffic signal upgrades, and the development of public transport systems. The research aims to support policymakers in creating sustainable urban mobility solutions.
