Abstract

Pyothorax  I  otherwise  known  as  empyema.  Pyothorax  is  manifested  by  the  baccumulation  of  pus  particularly  within  the  pleural  cavity.  Pyothorax  happens  with  the  help  of  bacterial  infection  and  results  in  respiratory  distress  in  a  sifnificant  manner.  Pyothorax  happens  because  of  chest  trauma,  lung  abscess  or  pnemonia.  Types  of  pyothorax  include  parapneumonic  pyothorax,  post  operative  pyothorax  and  traumatic  pyothorax.  Symptoms  of  pyothorax  are   chest  pain,  fever,  fatigue,  reduced  breath  sounds.  Diagnosis  of  pyothorax  is  based  on   chest  X-ray,  CT  scan,  thoracocentesis  and  blood  tests.  Treatment  is  dependent  upon  antibiotic  therapy,  thoracic  drainage  and  structural  intervention.
