A Comprehensive Review on Oral Medicated Jellies

Abstract


The commercial production of oral medicated jellies, which date back to the 20th century, has continued due to consumer demand. The palatable solid dosage form known as oral medicated jellies is provided in the oral cavity and is intended to be dissolved in the mouth or pharynx for its local or systemic effects. Oral medicated jellies provide a number of benefits as a pharmaceutical formulation, but they also have certain drawbacks. Oral medicated jellies can be used as a dosage form for medication delivery via the buccal, gingival, and sublingual routes. Oral medicinal jellies are sold over-the-counter and come in flavors like mango, pineapple, strawberry, and chocolate, etc. They contain a medicine that treats arthritis, erectile dysfunction, and sore throat

Oral medicated jellies are a unique dosage form that offers several advantages, such as ease of administration and improved patient compliance, especially for individuals who have difficulty swallowing solid medications. These jellies are designed to dissolve or disintegrate in the mouth, allowing the active ingredients to be absorbed through the oral mucosa.In terms of efficacy, oral medicated jellies are commonly used for various purposes, including pain relief, antihistaminic effects, and nutritional supplementation. The effectiveness of these jellies depends on factors like the active ingredients, formulation, and patient-specific factors.

They are created utilizing a congealed and heating process. With numerous uses In pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, and over-the-counter medications, it serves as a unique dosage form. This review provides formulation scientists with novel applications for this drug delivery technique by focusing on several aspects of the formulation of oral medicated jellies.
