An Intelligent Walking Aid with a GSM Module for the Safety of the Elderly and the Blind

Abstract


Independence can be achieved through developing a strategy for achieving desires, goals, and objectives in life. The paper describes support for blinds (i.e. blind walking stick) using Arduino and different types of sensors. It can be quite difficult for blind and elderly to live freely. Blind or visually impaired all around the world constantly need assistance from others. These individuals have to ask guidance to reach their desired locations. From several decades, the white walking stick became a well-known navigational tool for blind people, and endeavors have since been undertaken to enhance the walking stick by adding certain signal repeaters. When utilising a white cane to negotiate stairs or the road, blind persons have difficulties, nonetheless, have severe tactile sensitivity. This issue inspired to create the smart stick, with the hope of giving the blind or visually challenged a better alternative.
