Abstract

In today’s world around 3000 automobile accidents occur every day. Based on the statistics, most of these accidents could be prevented if the driver wasn’t allowed to drive while being drunk and warned if the engine gets heated beyond the limit. Also the deaths due to late detection of the accidents are pretty high. The proposed embedded system can prevent the accidents from occurring by providing proper preventive measures. The system consists of temperature sensor, alcohol sensor, accelerometer, GPS module, GSM module, motor, buzzer and other such components and all these devices are interfaced with the central microcontroller unit, Arduino. The heat of the engine is detected by a temperature sensor, and if the engine is warmer than it should be, then the driver is warned through the buzzer alert system. Alcohol sensor helps in detecting the drunk state of the driver. If the alcohol concentration in the driver’s breath exceeds the threshold concentration, the motor driver IC stops the functioning of the vehicle through the relay system provided. Beyond all these preventive measures if the accident occurs, the accident detection system comes into action. The ambulance and the police services are notified through GSM module regarding the location of the accident, the coordinates will be tracked through GPS system and the tracked location along with the google map link will be sent to the concerned smart devices having mobile network accessibility through the messaging service.
