THE FUTURE OF AUTONOMOUS VEHICLES: TECHNOLOGICALS ADVANCEMENTS AND SOCIETAL IMPACT

Abstract


The study examines recent advancements in automated driving systems (ADS) and their imminent commercial deployment, suggesting a transformative impact on transportation and user experiences. It explores how autonomous vehicles (AVs) could reshape urban environments by alleviating traffic congestion and enhancing road safety, this would necessitate major adjustments in infrastructure and land use planning. The research also addresses technological progress, regulatory hurdles, and societal effects, particularly concerning public health. It identifies existing policy gaps and emphasizes the need for cities to proactively prepare for AV integration. The study advocates for a comprehensive public health research agenda to fully understand the implications of widespread AV adoption
