Awareness of Leprosy Among Adults

Abstract


Mycobacterium leprae is the causative agent of leprosy, a chronic infectious disease that mostly affects the skin, muscles, bones, testes, and internal organs. The purpose of the current study is to evaluate adult knowledge of leprosy. The study's goals were to evaluate adult knowledge of leprosy and ascertain whether adult knowledge of leprosy is correlated with particular sociodemographic characteristics. The sample size was one hundred, and a descriptive design with multistage cluster sampling was employed. Self-reporting utilizing a structured knowledge questionnaire was the method used to gather the data. According to the results, 70% of adults knew about leprosy in an average way, 16% in a terrible way, and 14% in an excellent one. The study found that adult learners' understanding of leprosy has to be enhanced.
