Design of Hybrid Microgrid using Homer

Amrita Singh

Abstract

The aim of this research is to model a hybrid microgrid systems for a hospital, which is economically optimal and technically feasible. The system is modeled by integrating photovoltaic in the microgrid. Due to intermittent nature of solar energy the model also includes diesel generator and battery backup. Batteries allow generator-off operation for short outages, and allow the generators to run at more efficient load ratios for longer grid outages. Sensitivity analysis is done for PV investment prices, solar insolation, converter costs, and fuel price. The simulations are carried on the net present costs, cost of energy and renewable fraction of the given hybrid configuration. The result indicates that the PV/diesel/battery hybrid renewable system configuration is found to be optimum.
