Internet of Underwater Things for Water Quality Monitoring in Fish Pond

Prajai J. Shetty, Jayanthi K. Murthy

Abstract

Periodic Monitoring of Pond is very much essential for fish farmers or aquatic researchers. Monitoring involves getting the readings from the sensors related to water quality and also monitoring of the sensors deployed for this purpose. Monitoring of water quality depends on sensor readings of pH, Temperature, Salinity, Dissolved Oxygen, Ammonia and water level sensor of each pond. This paper proposes a system designed for monitoring of fish ponds. The system comprises of sensors which monitor all the required water quality parameters. Sensors form a cluster in pond and will be controlled by a cluster head. CPWS protocol is used in packet forwarding from sensor to base station. Base station will then upload readings to ThingSpeak IoT cloud. Based on certain threshold set for readings within cloud, notification will be sent to the end user via IFTTT.
