Single Image Super Resolution : A Review

Abstract


In almost all imaging application we require image with highest quality. Highest quality can be achieved by increasing the resolution of an image, which is nothing but minimum feature size of an image that can be distinguished by the imaging system. Apart from the resolution enhancement the term super resolution (SR) has its own impact in the image processing field and other industrial applications. Since both the structural as well as textural information are preserved in the case of super resolution, but this may not be satisfied in case of ordinary enhancement techniques.SR has a range of application such as SR microscopy, astrological study, video enhancement, criminal investigation and satellite and medical image processing. Computer vision and robotics are the latest area that uses the SR technology. Almost all super resolution technique are done in software systems, hence no change in hardware is required which will reduce the cost of SR technology.
