REDUCTION OF SETTLEMENT OF A SEISMIC RESISTANT OMRF BUILDING USING PILED RAFT FOUNDATION

Abstract

Piled Raft foundation is the combination of both pile and raft foundations. Piled raft foundation is the composite structures which consist of three elements piles, raft and subsoil. In this project, the design procedures for foundations, the soil characteristics are studied. The load carrying capacity of a twenty storey OMRF building in the selected location including seismic weight is estimated. The number of piles required and the required depth of the raft foundations are designed. And the settlements due to pile and raft foundations are calculated individually and the overall settlement due to piled raft foundation is evaluated.
