Abstract

The disposal of residual waste products is one of the major challenges that the processing and manufacturing industries face. The waste products of the aluminium industry include red mud and pond ash. The project's focus is on the suitability of red mud and pond ash for dyke and infill material building. Using red mud as a tailing dam design and pond ash as a land infill has been attempted several times in the past. The use of red mud and pond ash mix for embankment construction and filling material has been highlighted in this study.Initially, the geotechnical features of red mud and pond ash are investigated in this study. Standard Proctor Test to determine maximum dry density (MDD) and optimum moisture content (OMC), and specific gravity test are among the several trial works. Using the MDD and OMC data, the sample was subjected to Direct Shear Tests and Triaxial Tests in order to determine the shear parameters c and. The specimens were also tested for their Unconfined Compressive Strength Test and permeability characteristics, with the coefficient of permeability calculated using both a stable head and a falling head permeameter. After determining the separate geotechnical qualities of red mud and pond ash samples, the materials were combined in various quantities to achieve the best mix.The foregoing study and findings can assist solve the problem of red mud and ash disposal, as well as increase the economic advantage of the alumina and thermal sectors to a large extent.
