Defects in Concrete in Building Construction

Pramod Kumar Sahu

Abstract

In this research paper defects related to concrete has been identified, various codes and standard has been referred to identify the requirements and provisions for good quality of concrete. Since, in the literature reviews it was found that concrete is the main material used in construction and its poor quality may affects the structure up-to such an extent that, the building may collapse. It becomes necessary to understand the technical specifications and minimum quality requirements for concrete work, from initial stage (design mixing) to final stage (curing and finishing) in the building construction.
Having all the quality requirements alone is not sufficient. Quality management system provides necessary planned procedures to implement the process of quality control and quality assurance. Therefore, this paper discusses about the defects in the concrete, reason for the defects and to prevent identified defects the corrective measures adopted (following the codes and standards) in the case study undertaken in the research work.
