STUDY OF SIMPLEX PILE AND ITS APPLICATION IN CONSTRUCTING STRUCTURES ALONG SHORE

Sooriya Narayanan Perumal, Monishkumar. S, Mujeebur Rahman

Abstract

As foundations are the part of the structure that transfers the entire load of the superstructure to the ground, it is necessary that its design is safe such that the building doesn’t fail. The regions around the coast of Tuticorin district is mainly composed of sandy soil, hence it makes the construction of structures like lighthouses, power plants etc. very difficult. In this approach a study was made about the selection of suitable pile by referring various scholarly journals for raising such heavy structures. And so considering the conditions prevailing, simplex piles would make a better solution which in turn is economic and is quite efficient in terms of settlement reduction and its installation process. Assumptions were made regarding the load which will act on these piles and the pile load capacities were estimated. And based on the pile load capacity the settlement was also evaluated. The results obtained from the study correlates with the Indian Standards and the values fall within the safety limits.
