Investigating the Effects of Modified Bitumen and Subgrade Soil Stabilization of Flexible Pavement

Gopi. K

Abstract

In the present study, an attempt has been made to study the effects of use of a locally available fibre called crumb rubber is used as stabilizer in SMA and as an additive in BC.This paper presents the results of an investigation on the effectiveness of CRUMB RUBBER powder as a bitumen modification asphalt layer in a flexible pavement system. It is the by protect of tyre material. The bitumen modifications are to seal the asphalt layer and to resist vibration to flexible pavement for elongation and contraction. It improves the durability of road surface. Soil stabilization is a process by which we can improve the subgrade soil characteristics and its strength which in turn will enhance its utility. The various methods for soil stabilization that are widely employed include mechanical stabilization, use of geo synthetics for soil stabilization and chemical admixture based stabilization. Suitability of SODIUM POLY ACRYLATE stabilized expansive soil mixes as subgrade material in flexible pavement has been discussed in this paper. Addition of such material will change the index and engineering properties of the soil. Where added upto 0.5% of the expensive soil mix. It’s used to improve soil stabilization, reduce permeability. Sodium poly acrylate also as water lock, is a sodium salt of poly acrylate acid with the chemical formula [-CH2-CH (CO2NA)-]n and large application in consumer products. This super absorbent polymer has the ability to absorb as much as100 to 1000 times its mass in water.
