Correlation of Compression Index (Cc) with Liquid Limit (LL) and Plasticity Index (Ip) for White Soil Deposit (CL, Low Plastic Inorganic Clays)

Shushil Giri

Abstract

This investigation aims to study on the consolidation behaviour of white soil deposit from two VDCs, Dhikurpokhari and Dhampus of Kaski district which are neighbor to a major city of Nepal i.e. Pokhara sub-metropolitan city. The research started with field visit and soil sample collection. Different index properties and consolidation parameters were determined from laboratory. Long term consolidation test along with calculation of several consolidation parameters was done. Finally, correlations were developed between Liquid limit (LL) and Plasticity Index (Ip) with Compression index (Cc) of the soil mass. The significance of the study is that it will enrich information on white soil deposits which can be used to develop suitable ground improvement techniques for that particular soil. Correlation between simple index properties and consolidation properties will help to estimate the consolidation
behaviour based on index properties only.
