SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHERS’ ASSESSMENT OF EXAMINATION ADMINISTRATION PROCEDURES OF WAEC AND NECO IN ENUGU NORTH SENATORIAL DISTRICT, NIGERIA

Abstract


The study was carried out to determine how secondary school teachers in Enugu North Senatorial District assess the administration procedures of WAEC and NECO examinations. Three research questions were raised and answered in the study, and three null hypotheses were formulated and tested at .05 level of significance. Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study was 5,204 secondary school teachers in 107 public secondary schools in Enugu North Senatorial District, Nigeria. The sample of the study was 1,124 teachers that were selected using multi-stage and simple random sampling techniques. The copies of questionnaire that were duly completed and returned were 1080. The researcher developed a questionnaire titled “Secondary School Teachers’ Assessment of Examination Administration Procedures of WAEC and NECO (SSTAEAPWN-Q)” was used to obtain data for the study. The research instrument was face-validated by three experts. The Cronbach Alpha technique was used to ascertain the internal consistency of the questionnaire and a reliability coefficient of 0.77 for security aspect, 0.65 for testing environment, 0.69 for test administrators’ roles, 0.69 for supervision of field officers and 0.55 for adherence to duration of examination schedule of WAEC examination respectively, while that of NECO examination yielded 0.64 for security aspect, 0.83 for testing environment, 0.52 for test administrators’ roles,  0.78 supervision of field officers and 0.65 for adherence to duration of examination schedule respectively.
