Effectiveness of an Interventional Package on Level of Self-Esteem AmongAdolescents in Selected Junior Colleges of GunturDistrict, AndhraPradesh

Abstract


Positive self-esteem helps an individual feel happy and capable of maintaining personal relationships.The main aim of the study isto assess the effectiveness of an interventional package on level of self-esteem among adolescents. Materials and Methods:A true experimental, pre-test and post-test – only design with two groups, experimental and control groups design was adopted for this study. The study conducted in selected junior colleges of Guntur district, Andhra Pradesh.120 subjects of junior college students were selected by using probability simple random sampling technique. A structured questionnaire was developed to collect the socio-demographic data, Rosenberg’s self-esteem scale (RSES) was used to measure the self-esteem levels of the adolescents and the level of knowledge about self-esteem was assessed by using a structured questionnaire.Results: The findings of the study shown that the pre-test mean score was 24.3±3.10 of experimental group and 24.3±3.11 of control group whereas post-test mean score was 31.7±1.92 of experimental group and 24±4.1 of control group in Rosenberg’s self-esteem scale.The pre-test mean knowledge score was 3.4±1.5 of experimental group and 5.1±1.7 of control group whereas post-test mean knowledge score was 9.45±2.46 of experimental group and 3.1±1.57 of control group. The chi-square shown that there was a significant association between the pre-test level ofknowledge of adolescents with residency of students during academic year(χ2=6.61). Conclusion: The study concluded that the level of self-esteem improved after administration of Interventional package.
