DESIGN AND EVALUATION OF NIACINAMIDE ANTIDANDRUFF SHAMPOO WITH MALIC ACID AND HERBAL SURFACTANTS
Abstract
Anti-dandruff shampoo is a product that help to treat or prevent dandruff, a condition that causes flakes and itchiness on the scalp. A bacterium or fungus known as Staphylococcus aureus or fungus Malassezia respectively, reside in people's scalps and are the source of the widespread disorder-Dandruff. When a shampoo used under prescribed condition removes skin debris and the dirt from the scalp. The study's goal was to create an anti-dandruff shampoo by substituting preferential herbal extracts for synthetic and harmful surfactants like SLS (Sodium Lauryl Sulphate) and conduct the short time stability studies as given in the ICH guidelines. In the present investigation, an anti-dandruff shampoo of Niacinamide along with exfoliating agent Malic acid was prepared and characterized. Microbial inhibitory concentration was used to determine the effective concentration of Niacinamide against dandruff causing bacteria. To choose the finest formulation, series of them were prepared. Later the efficacy of shampoo against dandruff causing bacteria was found by performing Microbial inhibitory concentration. The formulations' various physicochemical characteristics and other assessment parameters were assessed, and it was discovered that they fall within the limits set forth in the literature. Amongst them one formulation was finalized and the evaluation parameters were compared with that of the marketed product. As a result, it is found that the formulation of shampoo is efficient and safe for human usage.
