Overview on Practicing Green Supply Chain Management Approach at the Ready-Made Garment (RMG) Sector in Bangladesh

Abstract

Bangladesh's ready-made garment RMG industry has undergone unprecedented growth over the past three decades and has become a rapidly expanding sector of the economy in Bangladesh. Country's ready-made garment (RMG) manufacturers have turned to sustainable manufacturing practices by setting up environmentally friendly industries and implementing state-of-the-art energy-efficient technologies. This article looks at the current reality and also how to strengthen the state of green (sustainable) supply chain management in the RMG sector in Bangladesh by examining the management of raw materials, the production process, the distribution process, and how to recycle industrial waste. The study used a primary data source that is gathered in Bangladesh through a structured interview of professionals from ready-made garment sectors. The sample sizes consist of four respondents chosen from the executive level who have more than 18 years of experience in the RMG sector and they all have significant knowledge in green supply chain management. Bangladesh's new and existing RMG industry's entire scenario for making green establishments is a welcome conception. In contextualization of green business strategy intensification and environmental devastation, we suggested implementing green supply chain management (GSCM) from material management to the recycling process in each industry to gain competitive advantages around the Bangladesh RMG sectors.
