Abstract

The present study involves the optimization of friction stir welding (FSW) for heat treatable aluminium alloy AA6082 by considering the parameter like Rotational Speed, Feed rate of Tool and Axial Load which was designed by L9 array of TAGUCHI design. The selection of tool profile is also affected the FSW fabrication. Based on the ANSYS simulation results, it was confirmed that TAPER CYLINDRICAL PIN having lesser amount of bend or twist, distribution stress and strain compared with other pin profiles. There are nine pair were welded using taper cylindrical pin for conducting the experimental work. The Lab test results of tensile strength and hardness of specimen were analysed through TAGUCHI Technique and optimal control factors for tensile strength were obtained by speed 900 rpm, Feed Rate 25mm/min, Axial load 10 KN. The angle of distortion and depth of the weld, width of the bead profile were investigated along with the mechanical properties of the joint.
