Abstract

Work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) are a common problem in the automotive industry. WMSDs are affecting the worker's health and reduce productivity and efficiency. Nowadays the demand for the three-wheeler autos will get increased. Three-wheeler autos majorly play an important role as passenger autos. During manufacturing of the three-wheeler auto go under the process like Machining, Engine assembly, Paint shop, Vehicle Assembly, Test drive, Export (SKD, CKD). The present ergonomic study was focused on the Semi Knock Down Export. The process involved in the SKD is vehicle transferring, tire removing stage, Engine oil drain stage, Rear wheel removal stage, Steering column dismantling stage, Corton cover rolling stage, Frame assembling stage, Pillar stage, Tightening stage, and Export. In each stage of SKD, they will create ergonomic and health-related hazards. The workers exposed to the hazards are unsuitable tasks or inappropriate workplaces. In each stage workers will be subjected to awkward postures like bending, twisting, and handling heavyweight. The study carried out work area observation, interview sessions, videotaping, and photographs for assessment of RULA and REBA. According to the assessment except for Corton covering stage will come medium risk level reaming stages will create a high-risk level and immediate changes will be required. The study suggests improving the work area by using administrative and engineering controls to provide the Anti-fatigue mate, conveyor system for the entire process, provide side support for a chair with a cushion, provide rubber grip for tools, change work area and working procedure and job rotation for the workers.
