Implementation and Performance Evaluation of Manufacturing Automation Protocol (MAP) for Smart Industrial Communication Systems

A. Gujar

Abstract

The Manufacturing Automation Protocol (MAP) has emerged as a key standard for integrating communication and control systems in automated manufacturing environments. This paper presents a comprehensive study on the design, implementation, and performance evaluation of MAP in modern smart manufacturing systems. The objective is to establish reliable data exchange between heterogeneous devices such as programmable logic controllers (PLCs), robotic arms, and supervisory control systems. The research emphasizes interoperability, real-time data handling, and fault-tolerant communication over Ethernet-based industrial networks. Experimental analysis demonstrates that the use of MAP enhances system synchronization, reduces latency, and improves overall production efficiency. The paper also discusses the integration of MAP with emerging Industry 4.0 technologies, including the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and cyber-physical systems, highlighting its potential for adaptive and intelligent manufacturing solutions.
