Design & Implementation of GSM based Automatic Meter Reading System

Srividya R, Senthil Velan S, Murali M C

Abstract

The paper focuses on design and development of an Automated Water inflow reading Meter system, having remote monitoring and controlling capabilities. The Automatic Meter Reading system (AMR) monitors the energy meter uninterruptedly. It sends data to service provider on request through SMS. This data will be stored for further processing by energy provider in server located at electricity Board station. The electricity bill is sent through SMS or by e-mail by the Energy provider. Through this system customers are provided with a convenience of paying bill online. The system gives maximum freedom to initiate action against customers who have outstanding dues. Ccompanies have capability to disconnect the power supply to such customers till the dues are paid. Therefore, this GSM based automated ssystem is more efficient than the convention billing methods and system.
