Abstract

Dementia, which is characterized by a decline in thinking and independence in daily tasks, is mostly brought on by Alzheimer's disease (AD), a sickness that results in the degradation of brain cells. The cholinergic and amyloid hypotheses were put up as two key causes of AD, which is thought to be a complex disease. Numerous mechanisms, including cholinergic dysfunction, amyloid/tau toxicity, and oxidative stress/mitochondrial dysfunction, are thought to contribute to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. The condition is influenced by a number of risk factors, including advancing age, hereditary variables, head injuries, vascular problems, infections, and environmental factors.Due to its multiple positive effects and lack of negative side effects, herbal medications have gained widespread attention. For the treatment of several neurological illnesses, Lavandula angustifolia, Ginkgo biloba, and Melissa officinalis, have all been used extensively.
