Abstract

In addition to both malignant and nonmalignant reasons, a high white blood cell count has other possible aetiologies. For the white blood cell count in particular, it is crucial to consider normal values that are unique to age and pregnancy. Repeated complete blood counts with peripheral smears can provide valuable information on toxic granulations, white blood cell kinds and maturity, and white blood cell homogeneity. Eosinophilia, particularly in allergy or parasitic disorders, or lymphocytosis in viral infections in children can be shown in the leukocyte differential. As a typical indicator of infection, particularly bacterial infection, leukocytosis could help doctors identify additional infection-related symptoms. Within hours of certain stimuli, the peripheral white blood cell count can double because of the enormous bone marrow storage and intravascularly marginated neutrophil pools.
