Eco-Friendly Anti-Bee Treatments in Building Construction

Abstract


Honey bee infestation in buildings has become a growing concern in urban and residential construction projects because bees often form colonies inside wall cavities, roofs, false ceilings, balconies, and ventilation openings, creating safety risks, structural damage, hygiene problems, and increased maintenance costs. Conventional chemical pest control methods may negatively affect the environment and human health, which has increased the need for eco-friendly anti-bee treatments in modern construction. This study focuses on identifying the causes and effects of honey bee infestation and analyzing sustainable prevention techniques used in buildings. The research examines natural repellents such as citronella oil, neem extract, eucalyptus oil, and peppermint-based coatings used in paints and construction materials to reduce bee attraction. Preventive construction methods including crack sealing, mesh installation, cavity treatment, and protective coatings are also evaluated. The methodology involves site inspection, identification of infestation-prone areas, material selection, application of eco-friendly treatments, and performance analysis. The findings show that environmentally safe repellents and proper construction practices can effectively reduce bee infestation while maintaining ecological balance. The study concludes that sustainable anti-bee treatments improve building safety, minimize maintenance costs, and support environmentally responsible construction practices.
