Artificial Intelligence: Transforming Civil Engineering Applications
Abstract
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a subfield of computer science focused on the study, creation, and application of intelligent systems. While solving complex problems often requires immense computational power, AI technologies provide a more efficient alternative. This includes the development and implementation of AI in civil engineering, offering insights into recent innovations and advancements in the field. With the rapid progress in big data, deep learning, and machine learning technologies, AI is being increasingly applied across various sectors of civil engineering.
Key applications of AI in civil engineering include structural management and maintenance, design optimization, data collection, sustainability assessments, and productivity improvements. These technologies offer several benefits and opportunities for civil engineers, transforming the construction industry into one that is more sustainable. The use of digital tools has significantly shifted the approach to construction, making it more efficient and environmentally friendly.
In civil engineering, computer applications traditionally involve numerical and algorithmic calculations. However, many real-world problems in the field are empirical or poorly structured, which makes traditional methods unsuitable. These challenges are often addressed through expert systems and artificial intelligence, providing more effective solutions.
