Utilization of Plastic Waste and Construction Demolition Waste in Sustainable Brick and Tile Manufacturing
Abstract
The rapid increase in plastic waste and construction demolition (C&D) waste has become a major environmental challenge worldwide, causing pollution, landfill accumulation, and depletion of natural resources. This research paper focuses on the utilization of recycled plastic waste and demolition waste in the manufacturing of sustainable bricks and tiles as an eco-friendly alternative to conventional construction materials. The study explains the collection, segregation, recycling, and manufacturing processes involved in converting waste materials into useful building products. Various engineering properties such as compressive strength, water absorption, durability, density, and thermal insulation are analyzed through standard testing methods. The research highlights that recycled bricks and tiles are lightweight, durable, cost-effective, and environmentally sustainable. The use of waste materials in construction helps reduce plastic pollution, minimize landfill waste, conserve natural resources, and lower construction costs while promoting sustainable development and green construction practices. The paper also discusses the environmental benefits, challenges, and future scope of recycled waste-based construction materials in modern civil engineering applications.
