Problem Analysis & Trouble-Shooting of Bucket Wheel Reclaimer through IOT

Rajul Misra, Kshitij Shinghal, Amit Saxena

Abstract

The Reclaimer is a very critical system at any industry because it re-claims raw materials like iron ore, coal, iron-ore fines, dolomite etc. and transfer the same to the feeding hoppers of Blast Furnace, Coke Oven, Sinter Plant and Lime & Dolomite Plant. Maintenance down-time of the Reclaimer for more than two hours directly affects the Production. So, its reliability and availability are of utmost importance to the company. But, unfortunately, there are several break-downs in Reclaimers are observed where the pinion shaft of the gearbox breaks. To save time and production loss, the maintenance team has to replace the complete gearbox assembly with a new spare available. The motor is generally not replaced. One more breakdown in the system means delayed repairs & replacement which might have led to a huge production loss and asset loss to the company. A systematic approach helped in finding the root-cause of the problem and fixing the same through IOT.
