Microgrid Energy Management with Renewable Energy Sources

Abstract


Micro grid with hybrid renewable energy sources promising solution where the distribution network expansion is unfeasible or not economical. Integration of renewable energy sources provides energy security, substantial cost saving, and reduction in greenhouse gas emission, enabling nation to meet emission targets. In this paper, optimal energy dispatch strategy is established for grid connected and standalone micro grids, integrated with photovoltaic, wind turbines (WT) and battery energy storage system (ESS). Techno-economic benefits have been demonstrated for all the hybrid power system. This system provides the set of technological solutions that allows information exchange between the consumer and the distributed generation canter’s, which implies that they need to be managed accordingly. To establish an efficient energy management strategy, a central controller takes the decision based on the status of load and sources. Micro grid can reduce cost for their customers. They reduce cost through the efficient management of energy supply. This study brought to light the opportunities associated with renewable energy sources, energy management, energy access, social and economic development and climate change mitigation and reduction of environmental and health impacts.
