Comparing and Estimating the Sulfur Content in Copra

Snehlata Sabarwal

Abstract

Agriculture is an important industry in the Indian economy. Horticulture is the main source of income for over 70% of rural families. 11.1 million tons of coconuts have been produced. Copra, the dried meat of the coconut, is a rich source of coconut oil, which is used extensively to produce fats for confections and baking. On the drying yard, the copra is dried outdoors in the open air. The fumigation of copra under sulfur is a part of post-handling. Overabundance of sulfur can lead to visual impairment, mental injury, and synaptic loss. The idea is to use photo processing techniques, contrast, and ongoing assessment to discern the presence of sulfur. Photographs of copra are captured with and without sulfur. The region of interest is partitioned using dynamic shape and multithresh. Features are retrieved from the image using the GLCM approach in order to differentiate between sulfur and normal copra. The different degrees of sulfur added copra are characterized using the K-NN arrangement.
