Cement as an Evolutionary Binding Material

Shraddha Chakurkar, Dr K. G. Guptha

Abstract

Cement being widely used and accepted binding material in construction industry has witnessed changes in terms of method of production and composition. Various materials like pozzolana and nano materails were introduced. Addition of pozzolana reduces the requirement of OPC and increase durability, long term strength, and also improved micro-structure. Since Nano materials are of the order of CSH gel are more efficient than pozzolanic materials at lower dosage. Limitation in using nano materials are their higher cost and difficulty in dispersion of agglomerated particles. Production of cement has significant impact on environment and to reduce the same energy efficient methods are used in cement production.
